Top 10 things to include in your outdoor wedding ceremony

Planning a wedding is an exciting time – and if you’re dreaming of a beautiful outdoor ceremony, filled with fresh air, happy guests, and gorgeous scenery, you’ve come to the right place. We understand that designing the perfect outdoor wedding ceremony that fits your style and budget can be a lot to organise. But it doesn’t have to be. Today we’ll discuss our top 10 things that will make your outdoor wedding ceremony stand out in all the right ways – so grab a cup of coffee (or prosecco!) and read on.

Pro Tip: Canmore wedding venues almost always offer an outdoor ceremony option.  Ensure you have an indoor back up in as of inclement weather.

1. Processional music:

Choosing the perfect processional music for your outdoor wedding ceremony is an important task. After all, you want your walk down the aisle to be a memorable moment that sets the tone for your entire Canmore wedding day. With so many songs that hold a special place in your heart, how do you choose just a few?

Don’t worry, we’re here to help! Here are some tips to keep in mind when selecting your processional music

  • Make sure the song is long enough for your party to walk down the aisle to.
  • Choose a song that has a consistent volume. Songs with fluctuating loudness can get lost in the moment.
  • Consider instrumental options.  There are many popular songs that have instrumental versions now.  Lyrics are not a no go, we just think instrumental is a great starting point for your day.
  • Ask your Wedding Planner, Coordinator, Ceremony music player how they need the music delivered to them
  • Remember, the most important thing is that you love the song. If it feels right to you, it’ll be perfect for your special moment.

3. Don’t forget a warm and sincere welcome to your guests

Welcoming and thanking your guests at the start of your outdoor ceremony is a great way to start.  Remembering that these are the special people in your life that you have invited and they are taking time to spend it with you.  With big guest counts it is hard to spend individual time with everyone on your Canmore wedding day so ensuring you recognize your guests at moments during the day will create special memories for them too.  Ask your Marriage Officiant to welcome everyone on your behalf at the beginning of the ceremony.

4. Take a moment

On your special day, time flies faster than you think. But, you can make it unforgettable by capturing special moments. Just before the wedding ceremony kicks off, pause for ten seconds to face your lovely guests. Take in the atmosphere, enjoy the moment and let your soulmate know how lucky you feel. To make this happen, inform your marriage officiant beforehand.

Pro Tip: But, don’t worry if you miss the opportunity. There are other chances that you can take advantage of at your Canmore wedding venue. Later in the evening, when your guests are having fun and you aren’t the centre of attention, pause, and relish the moment. We guarantee it will be unforgettable!

7. Set the mood with music

When you sign your marriage license, why not make it even more memorable with some special tunes? Choose one or two songs that are meaningful to you and your partner. Whether they’re upbeat or romantic, the right music can make the moment truly magical.

8. Take a moment to savor the joy

You’re officially married, and your guests are cheering as you prepare to walk down the aisle. Before you do, though, take a few seconds to soak in all that happiness. Let that warm feeling wash over you and remember just how special this moment is.

9. Choose the perfect recessional music

Your wedding should reflect your personality, so why not choose some upbeat and fun tunes for your recessional? From classic standards to contemporary hits, anything goes. Whether you prefer country, pop, or rock, pick something that speaks to you and walk out with style.

10. Stop for a kiss and snap some unforgettable photos

Once you reach the end of the aisle, take a break and share a kiss. This is a special moment that you can’t recreate, so make sure you take advantage. It’s a perfect time to capture some unforgettable photos that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

2. Who walks down the aisle?

Your wedding day should be absolutely perfect and catered to your tastes. So, who should walk down the aisle? Anyone you want!

Traditionally, it’s your wedding party, but nowadays, parents and even grandparents of the happy couple can make their way down too. How they walk and when they walk is entirely up to you, but we have a suggestion for you to consider.

We’d like to share a traditional wedding party list, but please make it yours by swapping out any roles that don’t fit your unique wedding celebration. Don’t hesitate to include groomsmaids, bridesmen, two brides, two grooms, step parents, or anyone else who makes up your beloved wedding party and family!

  • First up we suggest having the Marriage Officiant. They’re typically waiting at the end of the aisle, but occasionally they like to stroll down too.
  • Next, the Groom (with or without their parents).
  • The Best Man
  • The Groomsmen
  • Followed by the Ring Bearer, who can walk with the Flower Girls too (often this can depend on ages)
  • Next, the Maid of Honour
  • The Bridesmaids
  • The Flower Girls
  • Finally, the Bride makes her way down the aisle (with or without parents).

Of course, this is just a suggestion, and you can customize the order to your liking. Don’t forget, you can also fit grandparents in at the beginning if you’d like. After all, it’s your day, you make the rules!

5. Ceremony Reading

Looking for ideas to make your outdoor ceremony even better? Civil ceremonies can be short, but you can make them longer by incorporating a reading. Not only will it be great for your guests, but it also lets you include someone special in your day. It could be your cousin, a dear friend, or any family member who would love to be a part of your wedding party. Choose a religious text or a favourite poem to share with your guests. With lots of inspiring websites around, you’re sure to find something perfect that matches your taste.

6. Of course your vows and ring exchanges

We know you need to exchange your vows and rings.  It’s a personal choice if you want to write your own wedding vows or use the traditional ones.  One item to consider is whether you feel you can write your own meaningful vows or not.  If you don’t think this is a gift you have, then stick with the traditional ones.  Millions of couples use the traditional vows and a million people can’t be wrong!
