Summer is almost here. Coupled with warmer weather is the busy wedding season. If you’re an engaged couple that is ready to plan your perfect outdoor wedding, Cornerstone Weddings is here to help! Did you know, our team of wedding coordinators have helped countless couples arrange picture-perfect ceremonies and receptions? Moreover, outdoor weddings in particular, require some extra considerations that can be easy to overlook. Therefore, to help you plan a stress-free special day, our team of experts have compiled a few quick tips to keep in mind when booking your perfect outdoor wedding venue.

You’ll Need To Book Well In Advance

While you may have some degree of flexibility with outdoor venues, it’s important to bear in mind that many of the most popular spots in and around Canmore are booked up to 18 months ahead of time. Not to mention that summer is their busiest time. It’s also important to remember that you will need to get a permit from the Town of Canmore for most outdoor venues. Furthermore, failure to do so can result in someone else booking your preferred time or double bookings happening. Cornerstone Weddings’ sites are private or we assist with the provincial permit.

View Your Venues In Person Before Deciding

For outdoor weddings in particular, getting an up close feel of your space is important. Of course, not only will you want to imagine what things will look like on your special day, but it’s also important to keep the needs of your guests in mind too. Are there paths for individuals in a wheelchair or with a stroller? Are bathrooms within a reasonable distance from the ceremony site? Is it easy for guests to get to the site, or will you need to arrange group transportation?  In reality, these are all key components of considering an outside venue.

Be Mindful Of Mother Nature

Weather is one of the most difficult aspect of any outdoor ceremony, particularly those taking place in the mountains where shifts can happen rapidly and without warning. In addition to having a plan in place for obvious culprits like rain and snow, you’ll also want to account for sweltering summer days and ensure guests have access to shade, water, sunscreen, and more. Finally, you’ll want to double-check if your venue has a backup space for you to use if the weather changes. Cornerstone Theatre, offers couples that have booked their reception with them, use of the theatre should the weather render an outside event infeasible. Additionally, the Canmore Nordic Centre also provides the same service to couples who book their reception with Cornerstone too.

Respect Your Venue

By the same token, venues come with their own unique requirements with regards to food and beverage.  Many venues will not allow outside catering if they can provide it themselves.  For venues that do allow outside catering, Cornerstone Catering offers delicious wedding menus.  Additionally, decor needs to be accounted for during your planning stages, especially if the site is accessible to the public. In addition, if you have specific decorations like rose petals, tiki torches, or a butterfly or dove release that you’d like to take place, it’s best to address that with the venue as soon as possible. The Town of Canmore have many rules that prohibit some activities.
