Outdoor Wedding, Canmore, Alberta
If you’re dreaming of an outdoor wedding ceremony in the Rockies, you’re not alone! Alberta is home to some of the most stunning peaks that the Canadian Rocky Mountains have to offer. Canmore has become a preferred destination for couples looking to incorporate a touch of mother nature into their big day.
If you and your beloved are considering an outdoor wedding, there are a few factors you’ll want to keep in mind regardless of the time of year you plan to share vows. Cornerstone Weddings in Canmore offers four outdoor wedding ceremony sites. Three sites are located at the Canmore Nordic Centre and offer spectacular mountain views. The fourth site, the Canmore Ranch is available year round for couples who book their reception at Cornerstone Theatre.
With hundreds of weddings under our belt, our team is here to help you plan the perfect big day, rain or shine. Below are a few key tips when it comes to planning an outdoor wedding ceremony. Read on to learn more!
First Things First
If you’ve been debating an outdoor wedding ceremony, then chances are you already know that your biggest nemesis will be the weather. As much as Canmore has gorgeous skies and beautiful weather (depending on your preference) all year round, the mountains are notoriously fickle where the weather is concerned. Snow and rain are fair game no matter the season, and during the summer you can face sweltering temperatures that would make any bride swoon (and not in the romantic sense) without the right tools in place. Before you commit to an outdoor ceremony, you need to be prepared to deal with the reality of being at the mercy of Mother Nature.
With that being said, having a backup plan is key. As well, have specific goodies available to make overcoming the elements easier. Items such was water and fans for hot days and blankets and handwarmers for winter weddings will be appreciated by your guests.
Best of all, if you choose to book both your wedding and reception with Cornerstone our team will offer you the use of our theatre or the banquet room at the Canmore Nordic Centre as a backup.
Are You Comfortable Being Exposed?
Many of Canmore’s outdoor venues are quite open, meaning that, although you may have a specific area booked off for your ceremony, you might end up sharing your special day with some unexpected spectators in the area. Venues like the Canmore Ranch, however, offer enhanced privacy. Located just a two-minute drive from the Theatre, Canmore Ranch is actually a private facility as opposed to a public location and offers you stunning mountain views well as a secluded tree-lined setting for a more intimate service. The ranch features full-service bathrooms and ample parking and is available exclusively through Cornerstone Weddings.
Tree Island at the Canmore Nordic Centre is a smaller and intimate site that is surrounded by trees that still allow the mountain views to shine through. The Bow Valley Vista site is also secluded and is away from onlookers and has spectacular mountain views.
You and your fiancé might be fans of the great outdoors and comfortable hiking up grassy knolls to get to an outdoor location. However, this may be less viable for guests that have mobility issues as well as those who are more susceptible to the elements. It’s important to consider who you want there most and what kind of needs they might have while attending. Saying “I do” in the crisp mountain air while surrounded by your loved ones can be a magical experience. At Cornerstone Weddings, there’s nothing we love more than making your special moments come to life and welcoming you to our beautiful backyard.
